![]() Sure a civilian could probably do it, but what if we deploy somewhere hostile, where we can't just get foreign nationals to do it?ĭo you really want to eat MREs for 3 weeks in the field? All 3 meals? Not having cooks would be like not having ordnance personnel. Subsistence is actually a critical part of the logistics picture. ![]() So why does the Army need cooks? Well, it doesn't so much need them as want them. I have a clear career progression path, I love what I do, and I'm good with it. I told him I wanted to be a cook.Īll in all I'm happy with how things have worked out. Recruiter asked me if there was anything else I wanted. But alas, I had a criminal record and couldn't get the security clearance. A year at DLI in Monterey? Fuck yes! I had a 135 GT and scored well on the DLAB, enough to draw their hardest languages at DLI. When I first went to enlist, I wanted to be a linguist. And we don't necessarily attract the cream of the crop in terms of talent/intelligence. We work a lot of holidays, 4-days, weekends, shit like that. We were a star MOS for SSG a few months back. If you can do 3 honorably and re-up, you'll make SGT. In fact, our retention rates are terrible, so we promote pretty quickly. Being an Army cook is definitely not for everyone. I'd be in heaven right now.retirement check, and vast experience in a field I love, and could be used on the outside. 25V is also one of those jobs that can be used in civilian life. Had I gotten 25V, I'm sure I would have stayed in, and would now be approaching my 20 very soon. I'd always had a love for cameras, and that was one of the jobs I wanted when enlisting, but it wasn't available. What I wish I could have gotten is 25V, combat photography. Not sure what I was thinking picking that. I was gone by then, but guys from my unit told me they did fuck all in Afghanistan. Just a shitload of dummies rounds that we had to treat as real rounds, and never even got to see a little bit of excitement.no opfor attacks at all. I liked a lot of the ppl I worked with, but as a whole, I regretted picking 13B after my first field problem at Bragg. Do not answer n00b questions on the main boards.
